Jessica Harrison is a very talented multi-medium artist born in St. Bees, England in 1982. She decided to pursue her passion for art, specifically sculpture at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2000. In 2013 Harrison completed a practice led PhD, with the aid of the Art and Humanities Research Council. Some of her mediums include enamel, clay, silk, paper, stone, silicone, ceramics, skin, bone, pencil, and ink works. Through these mediums she crafts works of art that challenge the mind to veiw everyday, seemingly familiar objects in a completely different way. Much of her work deals with perception and the fallibility of observation with depth, shape, and impossibility. I am inspired by Jessica Harrison's work because she uses materials which are not typically thought of for art and they play with your eyes and your typical ideas of what should and shouldn't be possible in real life. I also adore the way she twists traditional art to make it mean something more. I happen to be a twisted person and seeing her manipulated versions of ceramic dolls and figures connects with me.
